Heavy Portuguese influence, making a massive profit off of free trade and with a lot of regional autonomy.

I love Meiji-era Japan, as well as the very late Edo period. Simply fascinating, so I voted the first option.

Heck, I even wrote a "Facharbeit" (essentially a long essay with the importance of an exam) in history class about the Meiji Restoration!

I have voted for a Japanese Republic, as the Republic is the most democratic form of government. But considering the long history of the Imperial dynasty, a constitutional monarchy as in OTL is also welcome. But one thing I hate in the current Japanese politics is the constant switching of Prime Ministers. They must make some amendments to the constitution to give longer terms in office to the Prime Ministers.

Seriously they go through Prime Minister's faster than italy!

I'd say a "Republic of Japan" would be the best, but the IOTL "state of Japan" isn't bad.

I thought the constant switching was due to Prime Ministers resigning, not short terms? If I am wrong, please forgive my ignorance; Japanese politics is not my strong suit.

Commie Japan. Well, more specifically "Nosaka Sanzo's Japan",since sanzo(Just like earl browder) arent that millitant, and jingoistic like Ye-olde uncle joe of russia.

To me it seems like there is almost some odd tradition of political harakiri among Japanese Prime Ministers. Run into difficulty just once and there is: "I have failed you, my most Illustrious Emperor! Therefore, I must do the only honourable thing and end my political career!"
