Whats more likely Fascist CSA or USA?

So, we all know the standard TL 191 course of events where the CSA goes fascist and starts slaughtering is black population.

I have always thought that after a defeat in the ACW the USA could take a rather nasty turn. I could imagine a strong political faction in the USA that hates blacks and Jews because they split the country (remember Judah P. Benjamin). I could also imagine that party having a great deal of influence if not outright power.

There have always been strong nativist tendencies in American politics and a certain preference for the paranoid style amongst the right.

I think we could see the free black population of the North treated rather than the Chinese immigrants were IOTL.

Its more likely to go commie then fascist, without the South.

Unless one was telling a story about that basically duplicated 20th century Europe on the North American continent then no. What makes good (or bad, depending on your view) fiction doesn't usually make sense historically.

Neither. Fascism reflected the legacy of WWI states that would be far more formidable than any CSA, dictatorship or otherwise, will ever be, while in the USA no matter what the CSA does the requirements for fascism will not exist. Losing the US Civil War and a subsequent reorientation of US identity that follows will mean that over time the USA will be very different from OTL, to the point that any equivalent of fascism is inviable. For another way to put it the USA would have the ability to become fascist but not the will, the CSA the will but not the ability.

If the United States were defeated and humiliated and if reparations lead to an economic downturn I could see the appeal of a dictatorship promising to restore order and strength. Hitler could never have risen to power without the atmosphere of desperation and anger that existed in postwar Germany. The cry of 'revenge' could have a strong appeal.

While a Republican CSA that kept slaves is not a contradiction. Athens, the Roman Republic, and even the ante bellum United States were all functioning republics who endorsed slavery while trumpeting the freedoms of its citizens.
