Heres my idea, which is probably not what you had in mind.
POD: Roman Empire conquers Germania, but never becomes Christian. Meanwhile, China experiences a massive technological revolution.
YELLOW: The Chinese Empire. Taking advantage of the expansive, but technologically weak Mongols, the chinese spread north and northwest, and maintaines a puppet Khanate. Tibet, ruled by the Dalai Lamas, is a puppet as well, as is Burma. It had massive territories in Europe, Africa, and North America after the Roman Empire's partitions in 1356, 1369, and 1400, however, has recently lost them, as they became the Empire of the East. (More on that later) In 1904, it declared War on the Empire of the East, trying to regain the land, but only lost it's massive African territories.
RED: The Empire of Japan. Stealing technology from China, the Japanese were wildly innovative and rushed to conquer the Pacific, most of Australia, and then went on to the Americas. Later, it conquered Hispania, Italia, some Mediterranean islands and several provinces in North Africa in the Final Partition of the Roman Empire. Recently, it has subjugated the independent tribes of south america, but in 1905, almost all of Japanese Australia erupted in rebellion,, calling itself indepedent. (hence its color.)
BLUE: The Norse. Weakening the Roman Empire so much that Partition could happen were the vikings, who also colonized Iceland, Greenland, and much of the north. It's invasion of Scotland resulted in massive Scottish explusions after a rebellion. New Scotland, in North America, became their haven, but is essentially an economic vassal of the Norse. Later, the resettled Scotland (now called something else, I suppose), along with Norway, rebelled against the central Norseland government and were granted large measures of independence, but were still under the Norse King. Later, a similair situation occured in Daneland. Very recently, Daneland has colonized South Africa.
GREEN: The Byzantine States. The Byzantine Rebellion of 998 resulted in the loss of the Roman Empire's eastern states to the new Grandroyalty of Byzantium. Rapidly expansive, it spread south, and east, and later participeated in Partition. However, the War of 1803 resulted in a collapse of Byzantine power into smaller states. In the late 1800s, one state, The Royalty of Anatolia, which kept Byzantium, has began trying to reunite the states. After the fall of the Republic of Aegyptus only the Northeast African state, The Royalty of Saharia, remains outside of Anatolia's sphere of influence, and it will soon fall, while Arabia and the other state it's color (can't think of a name) are independent, but mostly puppets of Anatolia, as is the very dark Green. Anatolia is unlikely to annex them as they were not part of "historic" Byzantium. After conquering Saharia, Anatolia will rename itself the Grandroyalty of Byzantium again.
PURPLE: The Empire of the East. Once the Easternmost Colonies or Territories of China, the formerly Roman, or Amerindian lands had taken on an almost completely Chinese flavor, with Mandarin replacing the native tounges, and Chinese colonization in Europe and North America resulted in the people looking Chinese as well. However, tired of being ruled from far-away Beijing, the Easterners requested greater autonomy, and didn't get it. From 1768 to 1790, a fierce war raged between China and the Easterners, who finally established a new Empire under it's own Dynasty. It took over the long semiindepednet Britannian Protectorate as a Province of the Empire, and had a horrible time of colonizing it. Finally, it forced it's colonizers to leave, and reestablished the old Britannian Monarchy and Protectorate. After the 1904 war, it gained Chinese Africa, and a small bit of Chinese Australia.
PINK: The Roman "Empire", kept alone by the World Powers after partiton, but falling firmly into the chinese, and later Eastern Influence. The Emperor is an Eastern puppet.
SMALLER STATES: Greece was never part of the Byzantine States, but was instead a Protectorate of them after the Second Partition. They later became independent. The other states of Europe are former Chinese protectorates, which were lost when China pulled out of the region in 1904. The East will likely gobble them up.
Because India being uncolonized is weird, they must have once been a great Power, but fell apart recently. The pieces will be gobbled up. The African States were it's former empire, which is now being fought over by the Africans, and China is moving in.
The far North American countries are simply unclaimed land, which is still ruled natively.
