What're ways Portugal could've kept Brazil?

I think the major change in case of the Portuguese-Brazilian Union survives would be the Portuguese presence in Africa. I imagine that Brazil would give Portugal the clout to get the Pink Map through.

I could imagine Brazil would give the Portuguese the confidence to try to stick to the pink map. Would Britain fight them over it? How badly would the British beat the lusophones? Or might Britain be locally overmatched by a coalition of Lusophones and Boers and maybe other Europeans?

If the Portuguese manage to effectively occupy Central Africa, even if only with trade posts, small forts, etc., the Brits won't challenge their dominion over the land. Brazilians could definitely help to occupy the land, don't expect mass migration as Brazil has plenty of empty land, but some adventurers and freedman could help Portuguese colonial effort. IOTL a considerable number of Brazilian freedman migrated to Togo and Nigeria, these people could be directed to Portuguese Africa even without a more elaborated scheme similar to Liberia.
