What would the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut look like if Canada had been American?

I've seen a few topics on an American Canada scenario, and the consensus was that south Canada would unfortunately be much less developed than OTL because most people would have no reason to crowd along the 49th parallel and would prefer to migrate further south... Nevertheless, I am sure that the Canadian North, on the other hand, would be much more developed than OTL, with a population similar to Alaska (hundreds of thousands of people, not tens of thousands). What would be the administrative organization of this region (states like Alaska or organized territories?), the economy and the culture? I'm sure that the Canadian North, in this scenario, would look like a kind of Frontier 2.0 / "Wild North", with all the consequences that this would have on people's fantasies and pop-culture.
