What would Make Truman viable in 1952

I am assuming the lethal thing for Harry was Korea.

Had Stalin guessed the likely response and told North Korea 'no' or had back chennels worked to keep China out an North Korea was allowed either to cease to exist or become a rump state so that the US clearly won would Harry have run and won in November 1952?

Anything else?

The recession of the early 50s and the corruption scandals involving federal employees didn't help either. Then of course there was the Red Scare. But yeah, preventing the war - or having it end in 1950 or '51 - would help the most.

Still, even if all of those are prevented, the fact remains that if Ike runs as a Republican Truman will have an uphill climb.

Would Truman be eligible to run in 1952?
I sat that because as of 1947, no president could be elected for more than two terms. Although 1952 would have been Truman's second election to the presidency (1948 and 1952) ... it is also true that in this event, no president could serve more than TEN years.
Case in point: LBJ taking the oath of office on November 22, 1963 ... He could win in 1968 and leave office on January 20, 1973. Thus under 10 years.
With Truman ... being elected in 1952, his term in office would expire on January 20, 1957 (Thus over ten years served) ... April 12, 1945-January 20, 1957 ... over 11 and a half years served.

In real time, Truman chose not to run after Kefauver beat him in the first primary ... BUT he would not be eligible to run period.

Any comments on this? Thanks.

The 22nd Amendment specifically exempted Truman, so yes he would have been eligible to run.

General McArthur suffers a stress induced heart attack shortly after the Inchon landings and dies. Truman okays going north of the 38th parallel, but he publicly states the intention is to allow the people of North Korea the freedom to elect their own form of government. he quietly contacts the Chinese to reassure them there will be no hostile action against them.

The peninsula is occupied without Chinese interventions and free elections are held in the spring under UN supervision. The result is a unified and democratic Korea.

America shows those dirty commies and Truman is elected in a landslide.
