What would make the craziest alt-Victorian era?

I really love the Victorian Era and the elements and the aesthetic of steampunk, so I thought it might be cool to think up a much more... interesting Victorian Era. Any ideas on how to achieve that?

More states successfully industrializing and keeping their independence. Colonialism usually makes things more boring because it freezes/actively regresses native development in order to more easily subjugate colonial subjects. Independence means greater intellectual, social, scientific, technological ,cultural, etc development and survival. It also means more dynamic geopolitics.

Make alt-Victoria half-Indian? I mean, along with what this guy said:
