I was wondering what would happen to Berlin in that situation. Im sure the Soviets would try to conquer the rest of the city, but what else?

NATO's Berlin Brigades hold as well as they can, until they're about to be overrun, at which point they open up with tactical nukes on any concentration of Soviet troops. By the end of it, Berlin's rubble will have been turned to rubble.

Shouldn’t this be in post-1900?

Since most scenarios of the Cold War going hot goes very hot, they’d be conquering a pile of radioactive rubble, along with much of the rest of Europe.

I posted it here as this was for planned attack.........fuck.

Yeah, please move it to post 1900s.

Try a google on "Operation CENTER"; this was the East German war plan to attack West Berlin in the event of a conventional war. One East German Motor-Rifle Division (1st), the Soviet 6th Guards MR Brigade (E. Berlin), East German 40th Parachute battalion, and border forces. In all, 32,000 men, 400 tanks with full supporting arms. Expected to take West Berlin in 2-3 days. Then the Stasi comes in and imposes the usual repressions on the conquered population. (arrests, censorship, liquidation of "hostile elements", and so on)

I tried a google search for Operation Center, and it come up with nothing related to what you were talking about. Do you have a specific source in mind?

Strange: I did that a while back and got a PDF from Armor Magazine, that spelled out the planned operation based on East German exercises (the actual plans were destroyed prior to reunification).

Here's two links (one's primarily geared to wargaming) but they have the information:

http://www.thewargamer.com/grognard/stoss.doc

http://www.knox.army.mil/center/ocoa/armormag/backissues/1990s/1994/nd94/6berlin94.pdf

(the latter is the Armor magazine article)

Thanks. I just got a bunch of hits on logistics and emergency stuff.

We have nukes, they have more guys. Berlin is taken but Soviet formations are blown to bits as are Moscow and Leningrad, possibly Tankograd, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Ufa, and Omsk. We are global bad guys but the Cold War ends in 1948-49 and technology develops more slowly with less rapid decolonization without a USSR to help.

Is the magazine still around? It sounds like something I'd want to subscribe to.
