What would have a successful Roanoke colony done for the English in the Americas?

The Roanoke colony predated the Virginia colony by over 30 years. So the English we can assume have a 30 year head-start on their first foothold in America from OTL. What does this change? A bigger edge over the Spanish and French than they did have?

Not sure that it makes a ton of difference, since the English won control of North American in the end anyways. Maybe North America/Ohio is just a bit more populous by the time of the 7 Years' War, so conflict occurs a bit sooner? The English were the only ones who really went all-out in efforts to populate North America to begin with, so a 30 year head start might not make that much difference. Sorry my historical determinism is raining on everyone's parade lol

Fie on historical determinism, I say! It just so happens that yours truly posed this very question on another thread with some interesting discussion therein (I personally like the idea of an early push to expulse the Spaniards from the Southeast, and having separate northern and southern colonies arise earlier than OTL).

The Spanish wiped out the French colony in Florida and murdered everyone. They might well do the same to Roanoke if it starts to prosper, that is the main thing. Second thing is that the war with Spain is a constant, so even if they don't send an expedition they will try to blockade, interdict ships going there.
