What would be the national anthem of an independent Quebec?

Let us say that either the 1980 referendum or, more plausibly, the 1995 referendum results in a majority in favour of sovereignty for Quebec. Leaving aside more substantive political and economic issues, my question is, what national anthem would it choose for itself?

How about Gens du Pays?

I think that has more the quality of an unofficial, "undergorund" sort of anthem, like And Did Those Feet in the UK or Arirang in Korea. The kind of thing that's associated with folk traditions moreso than state ceremonies. (Not that they're never performed officially, just that they tend not to get canonized as anthems.)

Not that I can suugest an alternative song for Quebec.

In case of their independence, they should become accustomed to their future, and this quickly.

So I suggest either La Marseillaise or The Star-Spangled Banner.

Oh Canada (the original French version)

Oh Canada with the original French lyrics, or

Un Canadien Errant in the original French...

Neither are exactly paens to Anglophone Canada.;)

Best,

I simply doubt that an independent Québec could survive economically and politically.
Formal and actual sovereignty are two very different things; just because a hypothetical independent Quebec would have little of the latter doesn't mean it can't enjoy the former. The world is full of smaller countries both size-wise and population-wise.

Going back to the anthem issue, I too think that "Gens du Pays" would remain more of an unofficial anthem. It's a very nice song but I don't think it's suitable for, say, singing in a stadium at the beginning of an international match.
