Suppose that Gerald Ford had narrowly won a second term in 1976, and the 1980s are a Democratic decade. This almost certainly butterflies away a Ronald Reagan administration. What would America be like without the Reagan Presidency?

The Conservative Movement will keep trying, though maybe neoconservatism never establishes itself.

Most Democrats in 1980 are going to follow a policy of detente. It's not a sure thing, but more likely than not. So Nixon probably gets more credit ITTL for setting us on the right course to end the Cold War.

Inflation will suddenly stop after 1982 as a result of changes in petroleum and real estate. The president will be undefeatable in 1984, just as Reagan was. No Reaganomics, a better economy, less attitude that "government is the problem." If the marginal tax rate for unearned income remains at 70%, you probably butterfly away multi-million dollar lotteries.

Trump in 1996 or 2000 on a platform like his otl 2016 one*, although much less economically conservative as TTL's most likely big name conservative instead of Reagan.

*US pushes left early, so he ends up being pushed first to the relative center then right early. Younger so more mentally flexible so it's doable.
