What would a war between China and USSR in 1969 look like?

The countries came close to a full war over a border dispute, and hundreds of thousands of troops were amassed on both sides of the frontier. Would nukes be used? Would Siberia end up Chinese? What would it mean for the Eastern Block as a whole? Or the Cold War? US reaction?

It would likely escalate and wind up with China being devastated. I wrote a TL which you can find here, which ends with China having Nigerian standards of living by today.

Very good, to Nixon.

Less so, to pretty much everyone else who cares about, y'know, humanity.

And if it blows up enough, I wouldn't be surprised if the US takes advantage of the opportunity to wipe out the DPRK.

If it went nuclear, there's probably enough explosions to show at least some of the effects of nuclear winter, especially if there's groundbursts. Fallout gets bad, too.

The demonstration that the USSR is willing to use their nuclear weapons will be starkly terrifying, and I suspect that the ABM treaty will never get signed.

There is also the scary thought that Nixon will do something totally nuts, such as deciding, "They've USED most of their missiles, hit 'em NOW!" (I don't think this is probably, but would be passing through some people's minds.)
