What would a Pokemon series based on the manga look like?

If you grew up in the late '90's, or even the early 2000's, you probably recognize, watched, or played Pokemon.

One of the most famous adaptations, besides the games, is the Pokemon anime. It's mainly for kids (although there's certain episodes that crossed the line a bit far), and generally, everything is what one might expect from a show with a Y-7 or PG rating.

However, for the more dedicated fans out there, there is a manga out there, called Pokemon Special in Japan, or Pokemon Adventures.

These volumes were a whole lot darker than what's in the anime; Pokemon die, there's threats of murder included in some of them, and the overall atmosphere is just much darker.

After reading this, this got me thinking. How can an animated adaptation of Pokemon Adventures be made? And if it's possible, what would it look like?

Well, it would be very close to the games. Taijri himself said that it was the closest in Intent to the games. There wouldn't be an Ash, but a series of characters based off the games.

It would be better, that's for sure. Probably lead to Pokemon being considered ess juvenile. Also it would butterfly the Ukraine crisis somehow (JK)

The third series of Digimon springs to mind: very dark-and-edgy (TM), with Digimon being killed, a shadowy government organisation and a final villain that owes more to Lovecraft that anything ending in -mon. And it worked.

If Digimon Tamers could be made, and hold an audience, I don't see why a darker Pokemon can't be.

Well, it did get made. And it kicks ass, even if its update schedule is worse than some TLs here.

It would be different, very different, if they tried to insist that the anime be based on the manga. The manga plots might end up different.

Ever since the 3rd Generation, the Pokémon Special telling multiple arcs at a time. At this moment, the XY arc is being told in the monthly magazine releases, Black 2/White 2 arc is only being released as part of the irregular compiled volume releases, and the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire arc is a monthly web release.

Turning that into a weekly anime series is not exactly feasible. You have to convince the corporate heads that any anime should not be synced to current game releases.

Shin megami tensei, not seriously, early pokemon draft were heavily based on megaten and part of manga keep that(seriously the first arc was like that, specially with evil elite four)
