The Abbasid Court under HARUN AL-RASHID drank enormous quantities of wine at parties. (Harun didn't, but his guests sure did.) Depending on when it happens you can get a Hanifa-esque idea of "alcohol from grape products is bad, other alcohol is okay in moderation." (I say Hanifa as opposed to the Hanafi school in general.)I'd bet the well-known British penchant for tea would remain the same. Not so with other historical passions, for gin and whisky...
