The TOG1 and TOG2 date from before the Tortoise and are not comparable to either it or the IS-2 - they were designed in the late 30s when it was thought that WW2 in France would be WW1 all over again - they were designed to be trench-breakers.

Not to mention all of those 'Independence' class multi-turreted monsters...

AFAIK the Tortoise wasn't a tank, per se, but an armoured assault gun/tank destroyer along the lines of the Soviet SU-100 & the German Jagdpanzer IV.

The TOGs, on the other hand, were tanks.
