What unprecedented countries could have been created in the 20th century?

Lusatia would be possible if anyone after ww2 would have bothered to remember that Sorbs exist.

Well, there was the Icelandic Commonwealth: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icelandic_Commonwealth
Well there was Nitra Principality so even Slovakia had some precedent and in Early days of Hungarian kingdom area was held by son of Hungarian king which was in line.

I just thought abot them in connection with Zapadoslavia thread. However how big was Sorbian population in 1945 - some 150000? Of course there are European countries with even smaller population but it would be stretching it. And If they become autonomous part of Poland they would be probably assimilated even more.

Maybe as an autonomous republic of East Germany, and in the early 90s they chose the velvet divorce and become independent.

Still to small population though and territories is/ would be ethnically mixed.

Ethnical lines between Czechs and Slovaks were pretty clear so velvet divorce was relatively easy.

There was a Kingdom of Bohemia, but it did not include Moravia, which is about 1/3 of present-day Czechia.
From 1055 who inherited the czech crown also ruled Moravia so it did bassicaly include that and also in terms of names, in Czech, Czech Republic is called the same as Bohemia. And Czechs see it as the predecessor. It may have had parts of Lusatia which we don't and other different lands, but the core lands were the same and its not like other countries did not change their non-core lands

a breakup of post-colonial Africa along tribal/ethnic mini-states instead of the colonial borders might have happened.

for that matter, Iraq as 3 seperate states is possible as well.

a Jordan that holds the West Bank being renamed 'Palestine' (70% of the population is Palestinian, after all)

Could Southern France or Northern Italy have become separate nations, constructing Occitan or Lombard identities respectively?

The problem is that there population is small and they are also spread out and have a lot of Germans living where they live. I don’t think an independent Sorbia is viable, although back in the 1990s they might have been able to get their own Bündesland if they insisted on it. The only scenario in which I could imagine an independent Sorbia being created is if Stalin gave it to Czechoslovakia as compensation for Carpatho-Ruthenia, then it became independent after Czechoslovakia dissolved.
