I'm a long-time lurker around here, and I've finally decided to join up and start my own TL. But I'm not sure what TL I should do! Some of these are post-1900, some of these are pre-1900, so I just decided to post it here.

Pre-1900:

La Sangre de Dios: The War of the Triple Alliance is one of the most violent wars in South American history, pitting the Allies (Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay) against Paraguay and devastated Paraguay especially, killing an estimated 90% of the nation's population. What if, however, Paraguay had helped the Blanco Party in Uruguay fight off the dual invasion of Argentina and Brazil, thus preempting the War of the Triple Alliance? This TL will attempt to explore that. Featuring a feudal, uberwanked Paraguay!

Divided Brazil: What if the Portugese court had been captured by Napoleon's army before they evacuated to Brazil, preserving the monarchy and leading to the later Empire of Brazil? Watch on in horror as the initially united, French-backed Republic of Brazil collapses into civil war, revanchism, and is swept into the greater Pan-American War of Independence?

Post-1900:

The Legacy of Dernah: Mustafa Kemal is able to win the Battle of Dernah during the Italo-Turkish War: at the same time, the Italian navy is repulsed, humiliated, and defeated at Beirut by the Ottomans. The Ottomans are thus able to retain control over much of Libya, and later launch a counterattack that pushes the Italians into the sea, forcing them to concede defeat. This victory destroys the opportunity for the Balkan states to invade the Ottomans, butterflying away the Balkan Wars and leading to a very different Great War: furthermore, it gives Mustafa Kemal enough influence among the Ottoman military to launch a reformist coup and push the Empire towards reforming into a modern, industrialized, powerfully militarized nation. Features badass Ottomans post-1900!

The Kiev Affair: Pyotr Stolypin, former Russian reformist prime minister, survives an attempted assassination during an opera in Kiev by a leftist radical. Though he is forever scarred, having lost an eye, Tsar Nicholas manages to convince him to return to the prime ministership. Stolypin subsequently manages to modernize and reform Russia while playing a difficult game against a number of political foes, while managing to steer Russia down a path of armed neutrality in foreign affairs.

Don't see a lot of War of the Triple Alliance TLs around... If you do that one, remember how central the whole experience was to Brazil, especially regarding slavery...

I went for the Ottoman one. Ataturk is one of my favorite figures from history.

I went for the Paraguay one, partly because I can help a bit maybe if you need me to. Got a detailed book on the Triple Alliance War and the circumstances leading up to it.
