What the Romans ever do for us?

Supposing something like the JPF, the PFJ, or the PPF had managed to chase the Romans out of Judea back in the day. If they'd actually succeeded in rebelling against Roman rule. What would the result have been?

I can't really imagine that, unless the ASBs are at work, or the Roman Empire falls apart for a reason I can't tell now. But if we let it happen... well, then there'll be another little kingdom around, similar to Palmyra. If they don't anger the Romans off too much, they can persist as long as Mohammed or his equivalent comes along (or the Persians / Parthians are successful conquering it).

...or the Nabateans, or the Armenians, or the...

(and even assuming Judea can hold everyone off, there's the Sicarii and other groups who are part of Judea who might bring it down or launch a coupe)

Maybe because they're pretty far away from Parthia, and there's a desert between them. Unless the Parthians also conquered Syria and eastern Asia Minor, they wouldn't be able to defend Palestine.

WI the Judeans had allied with the Parthians? (come to think, why didn't they?)

Not to mention that I doubt the Parthians would have been as tolerant about the Jews' religious ideas as Rome was; as I recall the Romans were more or less tolerant of Judaism until it started fomenting revolts against Roman rule.

Wasn't the real problem the fact that they refused to tow the line on Emperor worship?

No, that was the Christians.

Antipater and Herod brought the Jewish kingdom into Rome peacefully, so the Romans were willing to forgive them Jews their odd (by Roman standards) religion until the Zealots started fomenting a religious revolt against Rome. Rome has absolutely no tolerance for rebellion of any sort, and if religious officials are fomenting rebellion they will deal with them.
