What is the latest Nixon could run for President (and win)?

Nixon stayed in the public eye well-after his impeachment, serving as an elder statesman for the Reagan, Bush, and even the Clinton administration. Assuming he doesn't become President in '68, butterflying away Watergate, what is the latest the Senator from California run for President?

Trump is the oldest President elected at 70. Nixon turned 70 in 1983, so I suppose 1984 could be the latest, if you stretched it. However, I think 1980 would be more plausible.

Or, Humphrey wins against George Romney in '68. Wins re-election in '72, but then faces an OPEC embargo and stagflation around '73 (OPEC likely asserts itself at some point either with or without the Yom Kippur War).

And perhaps a Nixon vs. Reagan Republican primary in '76?

With the Democratic candidate starting behind in the general both from party fatigue and a choppy economy.

Yes, I agree. Late sixties/early seventies seems to be the upper limit for presidential candidates, so '84 (and subsequent re-election in '88) would be the absolute last chance for President Nixon. But that said, it all depends on how this alternate world goes: how Nixon's career progresses and whether the election cycle lines up with Nixon's ambitions.

I think in order to have a later President Nixon, you need to butterfly away his term as vice president; serving as VP makes the presidency the natural next step, meaning you get a President Nixon sooner rather than later, if at all. The route I see is to keep him as senator, have him serve as Secretary of State or Vice President under a Republican administration somewhere between '68-'80, and then make a run on his own in '80 or '84.

' . . . Graduating second in his class in 1934, he won a scholarship to Duke University Law School. Although he was a member of the national scholastic law fraternity, he failed to find a job in one of the big New York law firms. This failure, along with the views of his father, left him with a strong dislike of the "eastern establishment." . . . '
Interesante!

I think I've heard this before, but never emphasized as well.

If you keep Noxon off the ticket in 52, keep him as representative for 10 more years. win the 1962 Governor election serving 8 years.
Nixon could then defeat George Murphy in the primary race and beat John V. Tunney to become Senator for California lining him up for election in 76 or 80

I don't think that Nixon would run for governor in a situation like this. IOTL, he had little interest in being governor, and ran mostly to keep himself relevant for another presidential run. But here, he's an incumbent senator with no strong need to boost his profile further.

in this time line after 12 years in the house of Representatives, Nixon wants to broaden his horizon by becoming governor of of the largest states in America.

you could even make it later have him as Vice President or Secretary of State for 1981-1985 and you could have him electrd as the 1984 president.
