  2. Without Churchill, it would highly likely that Britain would made a peace deal with Nazi Germany.

  3. Neville Chamberlain, a predecessor of Churchill, due to his illness, he would still resign as prime minister. However without Churchill, Edward Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax would’ve taken the position of prime minister.

  4. By many historians, Churchill has been accused of warmongering and human rights abuses, while his imperialist and racist views—coupled with suppression of anti-imperialist movements and his actions surrounding the Bengal famine of 1943.

  1. A story about Edward Wood or nickname “Halifax”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Wood,_1st_Earl_of_Halifax
  1. He was one of the architects of the policy of appeasement of Adolf Hitler in 1936-38, working closely with Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.

  2. He was a devout Anglo-Catholic.

  3. During his childhood, He was not happy at school as he was not talented either at sport or classics.

  4. He was initially sympathetic to Lord Lansdowne's proposal for a compromise peace.

  5. He suggested that the "Conservative Party should focus on the welfare of the community rather than the advantage of the individual.”

  6. With the Irish War of Independence then in progress Wood urged a federal solution. At this time he concentrated on housing and agriculture and Ireland.

  7. During his position of Viceroy of India, Halifax was more sympathetic to Indians than his predecessors and Churchill himself, although he had no compunction in signing death warrants when he thought them justified. He wanted Indians to be more united and friendly to the UK. He urged an end to communal violence between Hindus and Muslims.

  8. He believed that India should be a dominion state much similar to Australia and Canada.

  9. Irwin's position was seen as excessively lenient by London but as half-hearted in India. With little room for manoeuvre, Irwin resorted to repression using his emergency powers to ban public gatherings and crush rebellious opposition.

  10. During his Viceroyship, Irwin and Gandhi created a mutual cooperation which results the Gandhi-Irwin Pact.

  11. Despite the mixed outcomes, Halifax was overall a successful Viceroy; he had charted a clear and balanced course and had not lost the confidence of his home government. He had demonstrated toughness and independence.

  12. Halifax was an experienced diplomat.

  13. Halifax's policy appears more pragmatic, like that of Samuel Hoare, coupled to a firm commitment to rearmament, albeit unenthusiastically.

  14. In my speculation, If the British government under prime minister Wood made an appeasement with Nazi Germany, it would be likely that Hitler would have more management of fighting against the Soviet Union in the East, unless Hitler wage war against the USA after Pearl Harbor.

  15. Under Halifax administration, the dominion of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka) would’ve much more established, and independence would’ve taken far longer than in are timeline, and possibly would’ve remained as a Commonwealth, much more similar to Jamaica and Papua New Guinea. I don’t want sound racist, but independent or not these people would poor as shit, but at least there won't be Hindu-Muslim violent.
