What if William the Conqueror had never made it to England.

What if William the Conqueror and his army drowned on the Way to England? What would King Harold do? Would he concentrate on conquering the British Isles? Would the first Crusade proceed?

after crushing the nords hed be laughing his ass off.....probaly deal with wales at some point, but not much else

quietly assassinate Edgar Ælthering or a couple of years down the road face a revolt to place him on the throne

doesn't strike me as a man who would stay home. Seems to me that he would try and expand if only to make landings more difficult. Probably Ireland, maybe attack the Normans, or punish the Vikings for attacking him

I don't think he would want to or could do any of the above, Harold was crowned king in January of 1066, and didn't even for reign for a year. I really think he try to consolidate his control in England and possibly be weary of Sven of Denmark who also considered invading England. Invading a French vassal is out of the question, Norway he would have to raise a navy and even then I doubt he would have much support or inclination to do so. Ireland was only invaded by the English because they papal authorization to do so from pope Adrian IV the only English pope.
