What if West Papua would still be a Dutch Oversearegion/Colony ?

They were, at every engagement. It helps when the locals run the the Marines every time they spot parachutists.

I can confirm that. My former jiu-jitsu instructor served there. They'd get warned by the local population every time the Indonesians landed.

What also helped according to him was that the Indonesians assumed that they'd be able to support themselves there 'of the land' and would land with little supplies. But with the less then friendly population and the different nature compared to where the Indonesian troops origined, that didn't work out.
