What if Ukraine/Belarus/Kazakhstan keeps its nukes after the USSR collapses?

Would Russia intervene? Would the international community and the West recognize them as nuclear powers? Finally, how would the international relations of these countries be affected by this?

Hmmmmm- Russia calls for an invasion of them and attempts to get the rest of the Security Council to agree. Much irony is had by all.

Are you sure about that? That seems a little extreme, especially considering the potential threat of nuclear retaliation. I don't think the US/UK/France would agree to a Russian invasion, since they would want to counter Russia's power/influence in the region.

There would be an international effort to seize the nukes. Neither Russia or NATO is going to allow them to keep them. Ironic that the US/NATO would work with the Russians on this? Yes, but such an effort was the catalyst in Harold Coyle's novel, The Ten Thousand. The only book I know where a Russian ends up leading a group of US Army Rangers!
