What if instead of devoting the lion's share of its foreign aid and military assistance to Western Europe Post-WWII, the US had adopted an "Asia First" strategy as advocated by the "China Lobby" and many more right-wing Americans? This would have meant more significant aid to the Guomindang, for starters, and a much keener interest in Southeast Asia early on.

How might this have affected the early Cold War? Would this have made war between the superpowers more or less likely in the first period of the Cold War (1945-1953)? With the benefit of hindsight, would this have been a more effective strategy for the US to achieve its stated goals during the Cold War, or would it have been a costly, failed effort?
