What if the US Invaded Manchuria?

In one of a number of different contexts:

-They assisted the Soviets, after they declared war on Japan in August, 1945

-The Soviets didn't declare war, so they had to take Manchukuo by themselves

-Before 1945, perhaps to prevent the Soviets, and Mao's communists, from taking that area

-Your own scenario

Err... What?
How would the US get there?

You'd pretty much have either conquer Japan first, or free all of China or attack Korea instead of Japan (and how would THAT work politically?)

In any case, Manchuria would pretty much be a mop-up operation after the rest of the war was over.

The manpower, resources, and logistics would be better used to blockade Japan, liberate portions of China, secure Korea, or, god forbid, Operation Downfall. What would be America's motivation to invade Manchuria, given that the USSR could sweep that area in months
