It did have quite a powerful labor movement and multiple unstable governments in the early 20th century. So, I just heard that France was really unstable during this time. If it collapsed into civil war or something, how does the world react? What does Germany do? What happens to the French colonies? Where do refugees from the collapse go to? Etc.
Wouldn't the European ruling interfere in a French communist civil war, I mean it would be bloody, but I wouldn't think that France would be able to have a repeat of the French revolution and subsequent Napoleonic wars. Could they? Wait no, industrial weapons. Machine guns. My God if people hate communism enough, would proto Nazis try to commit genocide on a Communist France in order to avoid another Napoleon. It did have quite a powerful labor movement and multiple unstable governments in the early 20th century.
More importantly there is the ever present memory of 1789 and of course 1848 and the commune. Have a French communist civil war and my God the European ruling classes will be shaking in their sleep.
In the early 20th century you have to understand socialism and communism weren't reviled, it was a dream a lot of people truly believed in including France. It's not about another Napeleon the reason why the European states would intervene is to ensure their own heads aren't hanging from lampposts as well. The fear of socialist revolution in Europe was very real.Wouldn't the European ruling interfere in a French communist civil war, I mean it would be bloody, but I wouldn't think that France would be able to have a repeat of the French revolution and subsequent Napoleonic wars.
