What if The terrorist won the Invasion of Afghanitsan

An idea I'm playing: what if during the invasion of Afghanistan Osama's forces and the Taliban defeated our forces, and of course salvaged all of western weapons and equipment what would the end result have been for the world?

Lemme try to put this to you quickly before the other posters get a hold of you and tell you to GTFO:

This is highly implausible. I belongs in the ASB forum where we put things that can't happen without the intervention of an other-worldly being.

However, let's go with it. Taliban and Al-Qaeda kill the invasion forces and then steal their weapons for the next wave; only this time the next wave is a series of nuclear attacks and drone strikes onto remnant forces after the areas rads go down so the drones can operate. Political Fallout from the use of nukes ruins Americas economy, and the mismanagement of the Coalition Armed Forces that lead to their decimation would be investigated while the first conflicts with the Taliban would be restudied. But it's only when the Military relearns its lessons the Taliban-released videos of what they were going to do to all the prisoners came out from somewhere and the USA has to get terrorism in this war, again.

Maybe that's why I thought it was ASB.

What about if the coalition force commander lead a strong mutiny into Afghanistan and made himself King.

I mean, there doesn't have to be ... any "Americans" invading anywhere at all... if they renounce their citizenship, practice something akin to being a viking before China tries to get India to take sides and invade.

Yes, then osama bin laden will declare himself the president of the united states and make it an islamic theocracy...

from then he will become the head of the entire free world and create a world wide empire under fear and terror.

You're giving away the plot of the next Turtledove series now... :p

The best that the taliban etc could have hoped for was to make the conflict so bloody for the US and others that they managed to destroy all public support for the war and made it so that the politicians in charge had no choice but to order a withdrawal.

Easier said than done.

Guys... the title says what if the "Terrorist" won. Which insinuates that one terrorist comes out of the woodwork and pwns the coalition forces singlehandedly.

There is absolutely nothing ASB about this. It's like the anti-Bruce Willis or something. TL on this immediately, please.

Seriously though, no. Just no.

Someone is now going to pop out of the woodwork and say, “One Terrorist did win; George W…”:p

Not trolling, just a spot of irresistible humour; normal service can now be resumed.

No. The Talebans and their AQ allies did not even control all of Afghanistan before the invasion. Also, their power depended on warlords, whose loyalty was dubious, and many betrayed them during the war. All in all, they did not have the capacity to fight of the American invasion.

I am quite literally struck speechless. I thank God only that my body retains sufficient control over the fine motor nerves in my fingers to type this... NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.

The "invasion" of Afghanistan was done by the Northern Alliance and B-52's. Only after the Northern Alliance had won were significant ground troops deployed.

If Osmama and Taliban resisted the Northern Alliance (and beat them - unlikely as they couldn't do for the five years prior to 2001 even without B-52's) the bomber strikes would probably continue.

Taliban winning a total military victory after 2001 and capturing significant quantities of ISAF weaponry (naff all use as they can't support it) is ASB

The only way they win is if the Yellowstone super volcano goes off and the New Madrid fault becomes active.

Well... It depends how you define "win".

Achieving your goal can be called a win. What is the goal of terrorists? Defeating the Coalition who is led by a USA who wants to punish the perpetrators of the most shocking thing to happen against it since Pearl Harbour, on the field of battle, is of course not possible.

But other ways to "win, might be.

First: Who are these terrorists who are gonna win? The Taliban? They wanted to govern Afghanistan in their own strange and medieval way + support groups who wanted to do nasty things to countries not believing in medievalism as the hot thing. They could not win. Mullah Omar could very well be sitting there in Pakistan somewhere and deeply regret having ever met Bin Laden. On the other hand: An organization like Taliban could be said to function best in a war-climate. Trying to shape a country in peace is hard. going for perpetual war is "easy". Like Hitler saying that the future victorious Germany needed small scale perpetual war to sharpen the minds of the citizens. Taliban has that now. Maybe they consider themselves winners, after all.

Al Qaeda? I don't really know what is the Al Qaeda's goal. Or if there really is one Al Qaeda? Seems to me that after 9/11, Al Qaeda groups popped up many places, with many different goals. Some theoretical common "philosophies", like anti-westernism and pro-Islamic Fundamentalism. + maybe a big dose of "lost generation-syndrom", like in Europe after WWI. But the practical goals of groups in Marocco, Afghanistan, Philippines, Saudi-Arabia, Britain, Spain, USA, etc., seems quite different from each other. It does not seem to be any major underground organization governing all.

Even if we stay with Afghanistan-Al Qaeda, "winning" does not necessarily have to imply beating USA on the battleground. Todays chaos in Afghanistan + general worldwide fear and extreme focus on security might be considered a victory of sorts. Maybe the terrorists have won?
