The Tarascan empire was native empire and rival to the Aztecs and had a large military numbering possibly as high as a 100,000 but after contact with the spanish in the most crucial moment they refused to fight for whatever reason. what if that didn't happen and the Tarascans decided to fight the spanish tooth and nail? How long could hey hold off Cortez and his native allys?

The Spanish would probably immediately find themselves in a similar situation as the Aztecs were during the siege of Tenochtitlan not too long ago. Mind you, despite the huge advantages that the Spanish had over the Mesoamericans, a third to over a half of Spanish did end up dying during the battle not to mention tens of thousands of native auxiliaries. Depending on how soon the Tarascans invade, you could very well see the Tarascans overrun and conquer the majority of the Aztec Empire before Cortes could call for reinforcements from Cuba and Hispaniola. Then again Cortes was a renegade and the Spanish would likely not cry over Cortes' death and send emissaries to the enlarged Tarascan empire to establish trade relations. And the Tlaxcallans had no emnity towards the Tarascans; could the Tlaxcallans sell out and give Cortes over to the Tarascans in exchange for a piece of the dead Triple Alliance?

Mind you this doesn't mean Mexico isn't conquered later on but...
