What if the Romans Discovered and Settled North America?

What if the Romans sailed further west, discovering and settling parts of present day Canada and the United States?

a) Rome wasn't really a seafaring empire; at many points they didn't exercise control of the Mediterranean, despite controlling virtually all the land around it.

b) The Romans weren't especially interested in meeting new peoples; they traded extensively with China and especially India, but made virtually no effort whatsoever to find out anything about those countries other than their trade goods.

c) The Romans didn't have much of an exploratory drive; not once did they launch a major state expedition for the purposes of finding new lands.

d) Rome has enough difficulty with the tribes/barbarians on its borders, why would they try to fight native tribes an ocean away? Why would it be worth it?

Cool premise, but a little impossible.
