There's two scenarios that I had in mind for this:
1. Pope Pius XI lives several years longer (past the end of WWII), and threatens to excommunicate Hitler at any time of his Papacy due to his anti-Semitic policies.
2. Pope Pius XII threatens to excommunicate Hitler at any time of his Papacy due to his anti-Semitic policies.
How would the significant threat of an excommunication affect Hitler's policies and behavior? Also, how would the impact of an excommunication threat be different were it made say, in 1933, 1939, or 1941?
For the record, I know that an excommunication threat for Hitler would not have been very likely, but I just want to see what would have happened.
