What if the Papal Schism lasted beyond 1417??

There probably would be a French Church, much like the Anglican one,but with its pope in Avignon.

Agree... Maybe this would evolve to a French Church with a Patriarch based in Avignon and a Roman Church with the Pope in Rome... this could lead to a total collapse of a unified Western Church and to the birth of several regional churches like Spanish Church with a Primate in Toledo (or Tarragona), an English Church with a Primate in Canterbury and so on... And all these Churches would have been independent from Rome with their own hierarchical structure...

I used the title Patriarch in order to distinguish a separate French Church independent from Rome....
but wouldn't a Patriarch indicate subordinate stature to the Pope in Rome? (I know patriarch and pope literally mean the same thing) the Pope was in Avignon when the schism happened, so if it continued why would the French pope demote himself?

He is not demoting himself... he is establishing a new church with a new title to distinguish himself... An Archbishop is a lesser title than the title of the Pope... is the Archbishop of Canterbury subordinate to the Pope? Or is the Patriarch of Constantinople subordinate to Rome? They just have different titles...
