What if the movie "Air Force One" actually happened?

This means that:

-a rogue former Soviet republic unilaterally begins military aggression in its own neighborhood and then the leader of that country is apprehended by US forces and placed in Russian custody. In the movie it was Kasakhstan, which according to the movie had a massive nuclear arsenal at its disposal(dunno how accurate this was at the time though).

That was a pretty silly scenario, borderline ASB. Probably the result of politically correct Hollywood once again stretching to come up with terrorrist villains who aren't Muslims (altho not quite as bad as "Sum of All fears", where the Arabs from the Clancy novel were turned into European Neo-Nazis ).

Ejector seats don't ring a bell?

Quite a difference between an ejector seat and a car sized escape pod...besides the SS has confirmed they would never allow anything that would remove the president for any length of time from direct protection like that.

What would happen if Dubya was the presidnet taken hostage? How many minutes before Fox would start calling Cheney president?

And he would say "Shoot it down" without thinking.

If I recall correctly the President in the movie was both super fit an a war hero, not very likely.

If there were an escape pod in a version of Air Force One I assume that it would be kept secret.

I can just about imagine kidnapping a president but siezing Air Force One is surely ASB.

I imagine stealing the Crown Jewels in London would be just about slightly easier. After all, they aren't traveling at 40,000 ft. Completely unbelievable scenario, but still a great movie.

Duh.
The contention was that the technology doesn't exist however. It clearly does.

Wrong again. It has been repeatedly asserted, (particularly when that movie came out) that the technology to provide a working escape pod, like the one featured in the film, does not yet exist in any practical sense..for Air Force One, or any plane. That was the initial point, and that remains the point.

This can be easily verified by just about any interview done with Presidents, pilots or SS agents, current and retired, that was published or broadcast in the wake of the movie...because everybody was dying to know about the possibilities.

The specifics of the plane are of course secret in the sense of schematics...but it would serve little purpose to claim a technology did not exist ANYWHERE simply to hide the fact that it existed on Air Force One.
