What if the guanches (Canary's island indigenous) people have repelled spanish ?

Hi everybody,

What would have been the evolution of Canary's islands if the native berber people, the guanches, managed to repell spanish invaders in XV° century ? Do you think Canary's people could have preserved the freedom of their island or at ther contrary, do you think they were doomed to occupation by a colonial power (Portugal, Spain, France, England) because of their technology that was still at neolithic ?

Thanks by advance for your thoughts and excuse me for my english (I'm french)

Very simple they would fall under Morocco like their neighboring other Berbers...

Columbus would not have been able to use the Canary islands as a base. He would have had to use a different port, and possibly would have ended up landing on a different spot in the Americas, triggering a different turn of events in the European conquest of the Americas.

Colonialism will most likely play out like OTL, so if the Canary islands are taken over by Morocco, they will probably fall under the jurisdiction of whatever European power takes control over Morocco: France, Spain, and Portugal are all good candidates.

Where things really get interesting is decolonization. The Canary islands might try to break from Morocco as Morocco's independence becomes more likely. There could be a secessionist war, Canary support support for West Saharan rebels, or the Canary islands working to delay decolonization so they can negotiate with the colonizing country for their freedom. Alternatively, the Canary islanders might develop a Moroccan identity in response to European colonialism, and become Morocco's bestest friend and most loyal province ever.

The Guanches are doomed period. There aren't a lot of metals on the island (none as far as I know, but I could be wrong) so the Guanches are denied technological parity (even minimal technological parity) with any invaders.

The Spaniards return with a larger force. The survivors among the Guanches are enslaved. (Canarian slaves were sold for a very expensive price in Sevilla OTL).
