What if the German Revolution of 1848-1849 succeeded?

Also, would you allow other revolutions to succeed in neighboring states? Europe was a hotbed of revolution at that time. So maybe a combination of Prussia and other states overthrowing their old corrupt governments?

You could do it if the revolutions had more capable leaders and more cohesiveness. So many different groups back then.

But again, there was plenty of mental midgets in charge of most of the countries back then. Austria-Hungary, France, both suffered against the mediocre to above average Prussian war machine. And it's General Staff.......which planned for everything! Tried at least...

Which would evolve differently if you had a new government with new progressive ideas in charge.

Last question for you. Would you have the revolution, if it succeeded, "eat it's young", as in new younger revolutionaries killing off the originals who made it come about in the first place?

:)

If the German Revolutions were successful, then Hungary would most definitely be independent. So yes, this does affect the rest of the continent.

"Succeeds" in what sense?

You can have FW4 accept the Crown in '49, but afaics that's about it. The Prussian Army obeyed its officers from beginning to end, so he can't be overthrown, unless the army chiefs for some reason do a coup - but even if they did that would presumably be a coup against the revolution rather than for it.

Maybe we can have a different outcome of Napoleonic War that lead to a West German State which have all the Rhineland, Hannover and the Ruhr to counter-balance Prussia and Austria. This state would be more liberal than both Prussia and Austria, and more economically developed and eventually manage to build up a strong army on its own right. The Head of this State can take the Crown of the Gutter.
