What if the First Crusade failed?

If the First Crusade had failed, what would happen in the aftermath? Would the idea of a Crusade be discredited?

Failed where, when, and why?

Having it not make it through Anatolia will produce a different outcome than being destroyed outside Jerusalem - or destroyed at Antioch, for that matter.

OK, three different scenarios. Destroyed in Anatolia, destroyed at Antioch, or destroyed outside Jerusalem.

In order, and I'm mulittasking so this may be light on detail:

1) Enthusiasm is going to suffer heavily.

2) Expect blame for the blankedy-blank Byzantines conspiring with the blanked-blanks Muslims. Whether anyone has the impetus or force to do something about that is another story, and I'm not sure I can answer it.

3) This I'm not sure about.

This would be very unlikely, but what if the Noble's Crusade perished in Anatolia, yet the People's Crusade made it all the way to the Holy Land (then failed to take Jerusalem)?

I agree. If they (the Crusaders) make it to Palestine but are defeated there, then Alexius Comnenus will likely seize Antioch.
