what if the Dark Ages did bot Happen?

Hello, my name Is Jeff im new to the boards here. I have always wondered what the world would be like today if The Dark Ages did not not happen. Have you guys ever wondered that How would the United States look
today would there even be a United Sates as we know it? Would we be out among the stars Like in Star Trek? Would like some thoughts on this. What do you guys think?

PS i ment the title for NOT Happen

Oy vey...

I am sorry, but you ust managed to trigger a whole set of memes that site members generally use humorously. PLease brace for impact.

To adress the question: Need More data. You would first have to define what you mean by the 'Dark Ages' and why and how they do not happen. If I were to posit, frex, that Greek and Carthaginian civilisation are destroyed by the Celtic migration and that Europe subsequently developed a largely illiterate culture, that would be one way of avoiding the 'Dark Ages' of 500-700, but probably not what you had in mind.

Regardless of what definition and point of departure from our history (POD) you adopt, the United states is very unlikely to exist. Its foundation is dependent on so many things that even a much less significant change would render it unlikely. Without the Dark Ages, there wouldn't be English, let alone England, so no chance of a USA.

As to the question of acelerated technological development in a surviving Greco-Roman world, we have a tradition of dragging out that debate every few months. Usually, the POD is something to do with the Library at Alexandria. If you're lucky, you can have the distinction of your post being the occasion to rekindle it.

If you're a sockpuppet - good satire.

Technically, there were no Dark Ages. From what I've read the concept of the 'Dark Ages' emerged from the late 19th century. I believe that recent and current scholarship is completely reshaping our views of the age.

What part of the "Dark Ages" concept is it that you specifically want to avoid?

The changes in urbanisation? The German/Slav migrations? The economic slump? Spread of Christianity into Europe? Islamic invasions of Rome and Persia weakening the old power structure?

I interpret the dark ages as the "stall out" of classical civilization between the fall of Rome and the advent of the printing press, followed by the Renaissance.

To eliminate the dark ages, you need to follow one of the many threads already on this site about preventing the fall of Rome.

Were the Romans bad for civilizaation?

What if no ancient world spaning empires formed? Instead of combining the advanced european factions to rise or fall together, several different advanced civilizations remain and the chance of survival for at least some of the more advanced peoples increases... I think. But you get the idea, no one ruling empire, might increase the chance of an advancing nation surviving and continuing to advance technologically in the face of disaster than just one... or two (Eastern Empire). Like the Greek splinter colonies around the mediterranean.

Just a thought, correct me if I'm wrong.
