What if the Byzantine Empire had survived?

History has a tendency to repeat himself, especially in the case of Byzantium. Look at the Comneni; three stable rulers, a period of expansion but then comes Andronicus, who wraps the whole dynasty up with his cruel streak.

The Byzantines need more "average" emperors...

Not just a few brilliant ones in between a lot of mediocre ones... :mad:

You're kind of missing the point though. The idea is for history NOT to repeat itself. It's for the Empire to survive. That's the whole WI of this thread. :p
 
Yes of course. Not all of the Emperors good be great, there would have to be some mediocre ones. The trick is limiting the damage that takes place during their reigns while optimizing the growth in strength the Empire gains during the reigns of the "good" Emperors.
