What if the Boer republics had allied with the German Empire prior to the Boer War?

I was reading the Wikipedia page for the central powers and found it interesting that during WWI, when the Boers tried again to revolt as Transvaal [The Maritz Rebellion], they received not insignificant German support. What if Transvaal and the other Boer republic had allied with Germany earlier, before the Second Boer War? Would the United Kingdom risk war with Germany over the republics? How might this affect other colonies in the region such as Mozambique and Angola? I'm not too interesting in whether this would directly affect WWI, but rather how it might affect the history the region of South Africa.

Why would Germany ally with Boers given their landlocked, surrounded by Britain or its allies, and heavily out manned and gunned . This would pointlessly piss Britain off and push her to France and Russia at a time when she is neutral
