What if the Alabama Claims had resulted in Canada being Ceded top the United States?

Where did I get sockpuppet from? Ian himself, here:
By the way, Rocano, why are you using two accounts to play in one game?
Post 3300 of the 'New Interactive Nations Game' thread (I couldn't quote it directly, due to the thread being closed).

If you consider Alternate history 'fake history', why the hell did you sign up to this forum, and why the hell do you call yourself an 'alt hist gangsta'??

You are behaving like a twat, which isn't something new. You deserve a time-out, something that I hope Ian will be bringing to you very soon.

Getting back on track. There are a host of problems even if the offer of Canada, or a portion of it, was offered as the settlement. It would not have included Newfoundland nor British Columbia. The additional problem with British Columbia is that its joining Canada was contingent upon the completion of a transcontinental railroad, which would rule out any central portion being given to the US.

Also its entirely possible that Canada could declare itself independent over such a 'selling' of it. An earlier post does give a potentially divisive addition of a third or fourth 'Canadian' political party/parties which could easily jump to second place after the Republican Party since the Democratic Party is so heavily damaged thru out more of the late 19th century.

OOC: I think he ment the one from the book

The Peshawar Lancers? According to wiki it's spelled the same way. There's simply no "berg" in it, especially as "bog" means "god" and the whole name means "black god".

And maybe he shouldn't be calling us "Bookies" then.

Anyway, the guy's got about 800 on-topic posts over the last 3 months - he got to that number faster than I did. So what's with the attitude?

But it was the actual offer, Canada or Money. You damn Bookies dont understand the Premise of Not Caring how or why it happened. Just believe for once.

But that's just it -- the premise itself is beyond ridiculous for several reasons:

-The offer of 'Canada or else' was considered laughable by the Brits. Hell--even the final payment of 15 million provoked a lot of complaints from some Brits in that they shouldn't even pay that amount.

-Even if they did give Canada, Ontario (having the vast majority of its population descended from Loyalists) will almost certainly openly revolt--not just against the Americans but the Brits too.

-And lastly--why? As explained in the (equally laughable) 'Third Anglo-America War' thread, they had nothing to fear from the Americans so why even take any threats from them seriously? Giving up Canada went against all their interests in North America.

It is very confusing in Interactive Nation Game. Sometimes Roccano will post as Oweno even though Roccano left the game.

As I said in the "NING Continuation" thread - I think that it's a school account, and thus Ian might have "kicked" an entire school in Brooklyn, NYC from logging onto AH.com! I remember a situation on Wiki where the high school I went to was banned from editing on Wiki :)eek:) because someone kept vandalizing a bunch of different threads. I lodged a complaint at Wiki (because I'm a registered user of Wiki) and they recanted! Why? I was trying to do some legitimate edits on some of the "Communications of [insert nation here]" articles. So in this sense I think its two different people in either a school account or maybe even using Rocano's ISP to access AH.com. Remember that Rocano and Oweno are two different people (their styles are slightly different).

Not to mention Québec as well - the old Catholic vs. Protestant arguments flaring up again. Think "Patriote Rebellion - round 2".

Only two individual accounts were kicked. Rocano claims that Oweno is a seperate person, but also that he frequently posts using Oweno's account.

Would it even matter?

If someone uses another person's account or the collective account of an entire group to be deliberately rude and offensive how is it Ian's job to practice advanced surgery and separate the individuals involved? It's the job of the organization to establish that an entire group is being penalized(if it is) for the actions of one individual AND to make clear to Ian that the offending individual will not be making more trouble.

It's interesting to consider what might have happened had the US proposed a relatively minor border adjustment instead of the cash payment, perhaps Vancouver Island, but this whole idea was straight from ASB-land.

Incidentally the US to this day does not have an official language but back in the 19th Century French was very much the language of culture and society so Quebec might have actually seen financial benefits as large numbers of the young people were able to hire out as tutors for a few years.

Economically Canada was a bad idea for G Britain (Considering I'm a Canada-wank junkie that's big) but strtigcally Canada is the greatestes they could've asked for. They have a nice safe place in North America and a nation that wouldalways be friends with them.
