Let say United Arab Republic had worked rather fall part between Syria and Egypt. What if Nasser was more welling share power with Syria dictator. Allow it to at least theory survival until to day. What effect would this have on the Middle East.

It would have expanded to include Iraq and Libya most probably. Suddenly Mideast politics change substantially.

Three things for sure one Israel be war this country until to day no reason make painful comprise for peace with Israel. Arab Israeli severing in Israel army this point well.

The USA and USSR pull deep into Middle East it self. Since this country like turn USSR while good number other Arab states turn USA. Possible even World war III.

Last but not least Iraq and Iran war never happen Iran like conquest by this country.

Iraq's leadership was generally composed of pragmatist nationalists like Arif and later Saddam, I really don't think they've have gone for rule from Cairo, Hell, there's a very strong possibility that the creation of a powerful United Arab Republic would lead to the creation of power blocs against it.

The Iran-Iraq War happened for a myriad of reasons.

Suffice to say the UAR surviving would likely butterfly the Iranian Revolution which in turn lead to increased Iran-Iraq tensions (standard interpretation is that Iraq started the war, there is an argument to be made that Iranian saber-rattling and regional power-grabbing caused Iraq to start the war though).

But nobody is going to conquer Iran, it's logistically a massive stretch to try and control one of the largest and most populous countries in the region.

The OP basically makes the UAR more equal. Even without the OP, you always ignore al-Bakr...

Towards the end, yeah. He only didn't go for it because it took him down a couple of notches.

Saddam was the intelligence guy, Al-Bakr appointed him as much for going for the whole Tikrit Family Business angle as for his expertise. It's theoretically possible to get Al-Bakr to get Iraq in the union, but it's difficult as all Hell, and one needs to rub out Saddam.

And Saddam really wasn't the personality to share power, he wouldn't accept any kind of UAR unless he ran the show, and it was out of Baghdad. Al-Bakr's power during his entire stint as president

Yemen might join. They considered it OTL, but decided not to.

I think Yemen even Sudan would be sure they part Federation of Arab Republic which much less united however in this case with Syria and Egypt already united it very possible instead Federation of Arab republic forming Sudan and Yeman would just join them. Arab states well do what ever it took fight Zionist for a while much own people cost.

Perhaps the Jordan-Iraq detente lasts longer and gets genuine American backing ITTL (rather than Jordan being viewed by the Americans as 'some desert the Palestinians will eventually take over, I mean it's not as if King Hussein managed to be just about the only arab leader to really go for peace with Israel without losing power as a result:rolleyes:)
