What if Switzerland was invaded in WW2 ?

"Through the transalpine lifeline of Switzerland's St. Gotthard rail tunnel flowed supplies between the Axis partners Germany and Italy."As far as rail transport was concerned, Switzerland was effectively part of the Greater German Reich.

the article seems to be a bit biased:
"It is time for Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal and Spain to acknowledge that there were no truly neutral countries on the European continent during World War II"

And I thought that Wien was a communtication hub pointing from Germany toward south.

However my point is that with 460km of common border between Italy and Germany (including the Brenner Pass) the swiss menace of "blockade" would not amount to much

What did portugal and spain do during ww2 that gave cause for such a sentence above?

I'm not sure about Portugal since they supplied bases to the allies despite Salazar (I figure the author just doesn't like fascists (understandable but by that measure Metaxas Greece was too :p )) but I'm pretty sure a lot of supplies did come from trade with Spain, even if Spain was adamant about the fact that, no, even for Morrocco or Gibraltar they had no intent to get involved.

So do a brilliant last stand but ultimately have to sue for peace because it's that or complete defeat?

The government would probably fall immediately but I can see resistance lasting quite a while.

The Finns kicked Soviet ass for being Europe's Baltic Canada. :D

I think that the main point of the article is "The Neutrals Were Evil".
And from such basis, a trainload of other argumentations could descend, enough to jam the traffic on the Gotthard Pass railway.

You'd be surprised how few ways there are across that border that can take any sort of freight back then. There's the Brennerbahn (Electrified), the Drautalbahn (single track), the Rudolfsbahn through Tarvisio and I think that's it for Austria-Italy.

Having a border is one thing, having a border with effective communications is another...effective being the very important word.

Well, the german map makers could finally color in that pesky switzerland shaped bloch in red or pink(or black or grey?) on the maps like they always wanted to.

And with that they could have finally gotten the five army bonus per turn which would allow Barbarossa to succeed.
