What if South Africa lost the 1995 Rugby World Cup?

If South Africa had lost to New Zealand in the final of the 1995 Rugby World Cup what effects would it have, if any?
I would say that it would lead to a more disunited South Africa in the present but I don't know too much about the whole topic and I was wondering what other people's thoughts are on this.

New Zealand looks on 1991 as an aberration. With that particular monkey off the back, the All Blacks might manage better in 1999, 2003, and 2007.

South Africa pats itself on the back that it made the final, but otherwise is not too bothered - it always was an underdog in that match, and in any case, the black population prefers association football.

The most interesting side-effect might actually be in the way professionalism arrives on the scene in 1996. Louis Luyt had the funds to tie the Springboks to the status quo (as opposed to Packer's WRC) - and since the Springboks were World Champions, this greatly strengthened the hand of the traditionalists. I still think Packer's little circus falls over anyway, but it might be more of a bumpy ride.

Not sure it will have such big political ramifications. If the Springboks don't win there might be a bigger push for 'transformation' in the team earlier, and more pressure to get rid of the Springbok emblem.

It might change world rugby, with the All Blacks more confident in ensuing World Cups though, as Maeglin says.

Also, there might be other butterflies, maybe a different Super Rugby, and a less arrogant South African side.
