What if Septimius Severus conquered Caledonia, and Geta replaced Caracalla?

How would the Roman Empire fare if Septimius Severus survived to conquer Caledonia for Rome, and then instead of having the murderous Caracalla as emperor, his brother Geta became emperor instead?

Would the Crisis of the Third century still be inevitable at this early point?

They all seem like dicks to be honest. My personal views on the Severans are that they're second-rate Julio-Claudians in terms of family drama.

And does it really matter?

To survive any length of time , Geta would have to do much as his father did - enrich the soldiers and **** the rest - and even that wouldn't necessarily save him. So only the names of one or two emperors are likely to be altered.

Yes, because it was not caused by single emperors or succession issues. It was caused by external threats leading to to a multiple front war meeting internal structural weaknesses of the roman society, roman economics and roman governemnt, developed over centuries.

Rome was doomed to run into a serious challenge, long before the Severan dynasty.
