In January 1942 the Japanese submarine force sank the vital oiler Neches and knocked the Saratoga out of the war until just after the Battle of Midway. What if this had not occurred. How would this affect the early stages of the pacific war? In my opinion it would make the early carrier raids along with Coral Sea and Midway far more interesting to say the very least. In order to help provide enough escorts for the Saratoga let say via ASB Shaw,Helena ,Cassin, and Downes were not damaged at Pearl Harbor.
