What if Prince Edward did died ?

Not often I start these with no real idea where it might go but this stems from hearing that Prince Edward nearly succumbed to typhoid in 1871. The effect on Queen Victoria of the loss of her eldest son, just ten years after the death of her beloved Albert.

Interestingly, the heir to the throne would have been the 8-year-old son of Prince Edward, Prince Albert Victor, whose later "involvement" in the Cleveland Street scandal and accusations he may have been Jack The Ripper suggest a colurful character. In OTL, he died of pneumonia in 1892.

We can easily butterfly away his death so that in 1901 he becomes king rather than George V. Does this make a big difference?
