What if President Huey Long sold Military Material to everybody ?

What if President Huey Long sold Military Material to everybody ?

The Business of America is selling to everybody, states President Huey Long

Now... Nov 5th 1935.
Vice President Huey Long takes the oath of office as President Roosvelt pass away last night.

Before...
On August 20th, 1935...

Senator Huey Long of Louisiana gets a personal visit from a close representative of President Roosevelt to visit him in the White House for a week-long personal conference of great political importance.

The Senator wonders what The President wants of him since they haven't really talk to each other ever since Roosevelt had been elected.
I've fought him and his supporters long and hard for three years for economic and welfare reforms.
What the dickens does he want of me?
-thought Mr. Long as he travels in secret to see Roosevelt in the White House...

Senator Long sees the President and finds that the President wants him to become his Vice-President by the end of the month.

Surprised... Senator Long inquires on what about the presiding Vice-President and finds that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed heart ailment that will force him to retire due to ill-health in a few more weeks.

Mr. Huey Long inquires further on what possible use he would be to his administration since the majority of what he had wanted for the nation in the last three years had been enacted by the Roosevelt Presidency in the last nine months.
The Social Security Act, the Works Progress Administration and the National Labor Relations Board that were included in the Second New Deal...

"Mr. Senator Long, you offer a new perspective, new ideas and alot of fire to improve the lot of our fellow Americans."
"I need somebody with that fire and zeal to help our country out of this dastardly depression and into economic recovery."
"But I also need you, if you do accept to become my Vice-President, to understand the political ramification of following an isolationistic ideology that will harm not only yourself but our recovering Nation."
"World Fascism and Dictatorships are spreading, Mr. Long. In Imperial Japan, in Nazi Germany, in Fascist Italy, in the Communistic Soviet Union and in many of the various Eastern European Nations that have been sway into fascism..."

-And ... I need you on my ticket to garner the populist vote and keep you under rein in my Administration so that you don't divide me in 1936.
-ponders President Roosevelt as he watches his hopefully new prospective VP...

"If you do accept to becoming my Vice-President, I would need you to assist my (OUR) Administration in running and pushing for economic and social reforms but before that happens, First... I shall send you on a world-wide trip to see just how dangerous these nations are to our way of life and our democracy..."
"Staying in Isolation while allowing the tendrils of dictatorships, fascisms & communisms will not only harm our own country but affect all the remaining democracies that still exist, Mr. Long."

Mr. Senator Huey Long looks at President Roosevelt long and hard as he thinks on the offer and the chance to gain more power and better the people of America whom are suffering from this depression..."

"Mr. President... As long as I am given the authority to push your (OUR) agenda in improving the lot of the common folks and pull them out of the poverty and economic suffering that they have to endure..."
"I shall gladly accept the post of being your Vice-President and go on a fact-finding mission to see just how dangerous these folks aboard that you have just mentioned can be to our fair land in America."

"Bully, bully... Stay in D.C. for at least a week or two as I garner my (OUR) Administration to start the ball rolling and get everything ready."

'Hmmmm... I'll have to drop my attempt to oust Judge Henry Pavey out of office but if this pans out... I'll just be a beat away from the Presidency but I'll be in charge to help our fellow Americans out of this economic and social mess that we are in...'
-ponders Senator Huey Long as he shakes the hand of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in agreement...

--Three months later as Vice-President Huey Long had accepted the post just a week after the former Vice-President had suddenly died of his heart ailment before he could have retired a month later...
Vice President Huey Long had indeed gone on a four week travel tour thur Europe to see the political groundworks of what had\was happening in Germany, Italy and in the Eastern European Nations near the Soviet Union.

He was suddenly & immediately requested back home as news reach him in London while he was planning an oceanic trip on one of the British Ocean Liner to travel via the Suez Canal to visit Asia that President Roosevelt had suddenly pass away from an apparent heart attack last night.

'Rumours had it that he had died in the arms of an unknown woman since his wife was on a trip around the country at that time but the Press, long a fan of President Roosevelt, had that squash in the press.'

Present Jan 05, 1936
President Long, now informed on the dangers of the world of the dictators but understanding that his country is not yet ready to get out of its Isolationistic fevour while still in the recess of an Economic Depression...
He states in his press-release that America will not get involved in World Affairs but that America's business is still Business and that she will soon be ready to get out of its Depression and start selling goods to the world at large...
Any types of good, whether commerical or military... will be sold to anybody with the hard currency, the gold or silver and minerals available in a barter exchange advantageous to America...

He states to the general world at large that America's business is to sell to whomever has the funds to buy American Goods, Supplies, Equipment and/or Minerals...

ITEM ;
with the new economic policy of President Huey Long of selling American Goods to all buyers, whether the Democratic Nations, the Fascist Dictators or even to the Communistic Soviet Union..
President Huey Long also warns the warring factions that any attack on any American shipping flying the American Flag and carrying goods to its destination would see that attacking nation paying double or triple the rates of shipping future goods plus paying indemnities for sinking said American transport and killing its American crew in delivering goods to its destination...

"Mr. President. That policy might not work too well in reality... Folks in Europe and Asia would do almost anything to prevent the other side from gaining any military advantage..."
-replies one of his military advisors..

"Maybe so... but keep warning all warring parties and continue to do so. I want it mentioned to them; againg and AGAIN!; that if they want our OIL, our metal, our planes, our tanks... they better get good 20-20 vision and look long & hard AND then turn their eyes away from our ships ... do you got that?!"
-shouts President Long to his Foreign and State Department advisors as they sign ; again; at the railing orders of their President...

Present Aug 25, 1939
As the world grinds toward a world war...
how would the European and Asian War fare as the various warring nations buy American consumer goods, metal & oil and military equipment from destroyers to Fighter planes and bombers as well as tanks, trucks and half-tracks......

How well would Germany with American sold Shermans & half-tracks and B17s fare against Soviet brought Shermans and P38s and trucks on the Eastern Front. As they use up their own nations supplies of weapons at a prodigious rate and are force to buy extra equipment and fuel from abroad...

Likewise, how well would Japan fare against the Soviet Union in the Manchurian marches as they use brought American Grants and Lees & F3F Buffalos and F4F Wildcats against Soviet units likewise with brought American Shermans and P40s & P39s while both sides uses their own Nation's equipment against each other in 1941 and 1942...?

Would the remaining Allies (British & exiled French & allies) be able to continue the good fight if Germany is still able to use American brought military goods against them while she is fighting a two-front war while Allies themselves use American equipment on British & Allied soil to combat the Axis on the Western and African front??

And will American Public opinion slowly but surely edge itself out of its Isolationistic leanings and see the remaining democracies fight a hard struggle against the Axis and she grudgingly prepares herself for a possible future war and rebuilts its own Armed Forces as the funds & material goods being funnel back to the U.S.A. helps them out of its Depression and assist in its own economic recovery...

Will President Huey Long be able to guide his nation to decide eventually to go to war on the side of the democracies as the Axis and Allies wage war across the globe...?

Sorry kclcmdr, but there'd need to be much constitutional hanwavium and ASB-level tweeking of many people from FDR on down in order for your scenario to come to pass.

Why would all those countries all start buying American goods instead of continuing to make their own. Having to rely on a supplier that's halfway around the world isn't a very good idea.
