What if Peter Hook died in 1987?

What do you think would happen if Peter Hook died in 1987 (probably from overdose) just as New Order was about to release Substance. This would certainly lead to the disbandment of New Order (similar to what happened to Joy Division) but it would also affect British Dance music/Alternative Rock particularly if the Hacienda is closed down (it was supported by the money New Order generated from record sales).

Factory Records probably won't last since it was managed very poorly particularly with money. Maybe Madchester and the results of it won't happen. Maybe other places in Britain will become big for music like Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham (which had there own music scenes at the time that were big). Also I think the surviving members (Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert) will carry on making music like they did in OTL (Bernard Sumner in Electronic and Gillian Gilbert & Stephen Morris in the Other Two).
Does anyone have any other ideas, points etc.

No Hook side projects, such as Revenge or Monaco, no later New Order albums such as Technique, Republic or Get Ready. His work with other bands, such as break act Hybrid, never happen. And we never get The Light either, so no Joy Division covers by the best man to lead it.

It's a really horrible scenario. Peter Hook is a god, man!

Kind of the reason why I did it. Peter Hook has managed to use his status in the Alternative Rock/Dance scene to allow himself a successful continuing career outside of New Order. With his death I can certainly see affects in the Madchester scene and also the former members of New Order (Electronic becomes more popular, Other Two become a cult pop band maybe?).

You'd still have The Happy Mondays (they were one of the support bands for New Order at Wembley in '87) and The Stone Roses, quite probably Oasis too.

True, although they maybe more cult than in OTL due to the release of Technique not occurring (which introduced Balearic dance music to a the wider British population). I could see them competing with the Gerbo music movement in the Midlands with bands like Pop will Eat Itself.
