What if Otto Von Bismarck wanted the Republic?

Not way that it would be accepted. Republicanism was seen very radical ideology on 19th century. You should firstly change Bismarck greatly. Republican Bismarck is not going anywhere on Prussian politics. Monarchy was default form of government.

Who said anything about Prussian politics? Bismarck was already an adult when the 1848 revolutions happened. I’m sure there’s a TL out there somewhere where he ends up liberalizing and leading a Prussian republican movement that comes to fruition during the Springtime of Nations.

He would not be chancellor like OTL for sure. No reason for Wilhelm I to make him. And he would be completly unrecognizable.

There was a really old TL I was messing about with when I first came to the site, it’s awfully written and contains an OC, however I can say that Bismarck can make his mark during that period. If anyone could lead a Prussian republican movement it would be him.

A republican Bismarck would still be an important political figure in Prussia. He has many talents as a politician and would therefore probably gain some influence if he gains a seat in the Prussian Parliament (Landtag) in his career. A republican Bismarck wouldn't have a chance to be appointed as chancellor by the Prussian King unless we have a revolution in which Bismarck has a key role.

But you need to change something in his earlier life.
Bismarck started in the 1840ies as a reactionary which is exactly the opposite of a republican. So you probably need to look at his earlier life to give him the opposite ideology.
Later when Bismarck gained more and more political influence, he realized that he could strengthen the power of Prussia by cooperating with more liberal minded German Nationalists abandoning some of his earlier more reactionary allies. (Still Bismarck was skeptical about democracy during his entire life).

After failure of German republican revolution Bismarck tried again to abolish monarchy, this time in Russia. His second attempt was successfull, Bismarck took power in Socialist Republic of Russia, which replaced Tsarist Empire, and was nicknamed Stalin by fellow revolutionists, because due to his determination in spreading republican ideas, he was regarded as Man of Steel.

he would have been a political nobody and probably would have past his time on his estates reading the bible and walking his dogs.
