What if Operation Roundup Had gone down and failed?

Just use that thread and lock this one, because we should not have to keep having this question asked.

Why? If you don't like the question don't LOOK at it. Maybe someone has ideas not thought of in the thread. Why are you even looking at a thread you know you don't like?:confused::confused:

If it fails, the US and UK try again some time later while the USSR gets farther west. The hard part is coming up with HOW it fails. It is very difficult for the Germans to win. The Wallies weren't stupid and built up and used overwhelming force. They had excellent logistics while the German one sucked. That is going to be the difficult part for you.

Partially out of Bile Fascination, partially because there's already been threads on this before.

What if Normandy was a disaster for the Allies?

They would still succeed, even if it was a disaster. Short of an alien invasion, earthquake, or divine intervention, almost any mistake on the allies' part didn't matter. The Germans could not stop them at that point.

Quite likely, I can see things that make D-day bloodier but I can't think of anything that could really stop it at that point.

Opening post requires more detail. Assuming by your use of 'Allies' you mean to imply some point of departure in WW2, that still leaves a lot undefined. What is a 'disaster' for the Allies? Operation Roundup? Operation Sledgehammer? Operation Overlord? Operation Atlantic? Operation Goodwood? Operation Cobra? Operation Totalize? Various other minor or major operations???

You need to define when and where

What if Operation Roundup Had gone down and failed?

You need to define when and where, and what the situation is in the Mediterranean Theater and in the Eastern Theater.

If ROUNDUP went into NW France as an OVERLORD or HUSKY analogue in July, 1943, against what the Germans historically had in NW France at the same time, then no, the odds are very much in favor of Allied success.

The thing is, an invasion in the West will only be launched at the time and place of the Allies' closing, which means there's really no way for it to fail. The Allies don't HAVE to invade, as long as the Soviets are still fighting...

The Germans, however, have to fight the Soviets, the Allies in the air, and prepare to meet an Allied invasion in NW Europe, the Med, the Balkans, or Norway - simultaneously.

Multi-front wars are like that...

Best,
