What if one of the twin towers did not fall?

okay what if, for one of many reason, one of the twin towers did not fall on 9/11. and was undamaged enough so it could be used again, what would happen?

Well, as it was pointed out on the History Channel, the Twin Towers were
actually designed to withstand a plane crashing into them. However, the plane
that was envisioned crashing into the WTC, was a smaller airliner like the
DC-8, and DC-9, not the ones that actually crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11. They'd planned for an accident not a deliberate kamikaze attack with unwilling passengers and crew along for the ride.

I know that, but its beside the point

If one of the towers didn't fall, lives would be saved. But I doubt it was designed to be reusable after a hit like that. Assuming it was repaired, it would be put back to business obviously. It's just to valuable to be abandoned. It would be a challenge to integrate business with ground zero remembrance however.

Be interesting to know how the foundations of the 'surviving' tower would stand up to the shock-waves going through the ground from a collapse of its neighbour.

well I was thinking if one of them had not been hit at all. what would happen?

Given the collapse of one and the fact that it caused a small earthquake and there were other other buildings at the WTC complex that either later collapsed of their own accord or were later demolished because of extensive damage I don't think it unlikely that the latter is the most likely.

Engineers would have carefully examined the remaining tower and probably figured that the damage was too extensive. It definately would have been interesting to see the slow demolition of the tower.

there is no way they would Demo it if there was a chance it could be saved

It all comes down to money and costs. If it will cost too much to refurbish and the damage is too extensive there is no way it will be saved. Public safety is very important and the structure would be condemned it necessary. Given that there more than likely would be extensive damage to the foundations it will probably seem better in the long term to demolish.

Very carefully. Im sure some demo team has a fantasy draft somewhere on how to demo such large structures.

Exactly how all the conspircy people say they blew them up in real life. ( I don't believe it just so I don't get yelled)

The entire WTC complex was destroyed on September 11, 2001, and many of the surrounding buildings were also either damaged or destroyed as the towers fell. 5 WTC suffered a large fire and a partial collapse of its steel structure.

Other buildings destroyed include St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Marriott World Trade Center (Marriott Hotel 3 WTC), South Plaza (4 WTC), and U.S. Customs (6 WTC). The World Financial Center buildings, 90 West Street, and 130 Cedar Street suffered fires. The Deutsche Bank Building, Verizon, and World Financial Center 3 suffered impact damage from the towers' collapse, as did 90 West Street. One Liberty Plaza survived structurally intact but sustained surface damage including shattered windows. 30 West Broadway was damaged by the collapse of 7 WTC. The Deutsche Bank Building, which was covered in a large black "shroud" after September 11 to cover the building's damage, is currently being deconstructed because of water, mold, and other severe damage caused by the neighboring towers' collapse.[65]

After the two airplanes crashed into the buildings, all three collapsed. I have no opinion on what caused the third building to collapse.

your using logic again, thats a no-no

your using logic again, thats a no-no

Thats how the world runs. Get used to it or get out.

Other prime examples are:

1995 The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building partially destroyed in the Oklahoma City Bombing. The remaining portion of the building was razed.

1942 USS Arizona. Following her destruction December 7th the remaining superstructure above the water was removed since it presented a danger to navigation.

1984 San Yisdro McDonald's. Following the massacre of 21 customers and employees the building was razed by the end of the year.

I think even if the buildings where still standing it is unlikely they would be habitable again, various damage cause by the heat, lots of smoke and rubble and an unsafe structure would all mean it was a no-no. Consider several surrounding buildings, while still standing, where damaged from the smoke and the debris and could not be used again.

It gets condemned as a hazard, the collapse of the first tower completely fucked the foundation which is below the water line and has to be completely rebuilt. So the surviving Tower gets demolished.
